Ignorant men don't know what good they hold in their hands until they've flung it away.

ECS154A Lecture: SR latch, D latch
- bistable: sequential circuit that can be stable in two states (0, 1)
- astable: sequential circuit that is not stable
- astable multivibrator: a clock
SR latch is bistable:
- : set
- : set
- Note that setting both and results in an unstable output, so it is not allowed. Truth table:
D latch:
D flip-flop (register) from two D latches:
Note that the D-latch is transparent when CLK is high, i.e., it acts on level, so it cannot be used in a sequence to form a shift register.
SOC001 Lecture: gender cont’d, 2 terms, re: midterm
- recap
- biological determinism
- social construction of gender and sexual, and how it relates to power
- doing gender: gender is performed
- gender identity: what a person believes their gender is
- biological determinism is often used to dismiss violence of the dominant group (white male) using biology as an excuse (testosterone, “boys will be boys”, hunter-gathers, etc).
- anomie: normlessness (i.e., lack of norms, not necessarily absolute absence of norms), which leads to anxiety and feelings of disorientation
- alienation: feelings of estrangement arising from being employed in capitalist society (Conerly et al., 2021, p. 118)
- alienation from the product of one’s labor (can’t emotionally relate to the products)
- alienation from the process of one’s labor (can’t control production)
- alienation from others (competition vs cooperation)
- alienation from one’s self (loss of connectivity between occupation and self)
