Infallibilism is the idea that in order to know something, all alternatives that would result in the same phenomenon must be eliminated. While under infallibilism we can be certain that everything we already know must be true, there are certain statements for which we cannot determine the truthfulness. For instance, let’s say Bob is in Davis; however, there is a possibility that an all-powerful evil demon used his might to simulate Bob’s sensory experiences and memories. If we were infallibilist, we would be stuck trying to figure out whether or not the evil demon actually exists, even though the possibility is extremely unlikely. Since infallibilism often requires us to eliminate alternatives that are oftne absurd, we turn to fallibilism instead.
