$\mathrm{MnO}{}_4{}^{-}+\mathrm{Fe}{}^{2+}\to \mathrm{Mn}{}^{2+}+\mathrm{Fe}{}^{3+}$

• oxidation (reducing agent): $\mathrm{Fe}{}^{2+}\to \mathrm{Fe}{}^{3+}+\mathrm{e}{}^{-}$
• reduction (oxidizing agent): $\mathrm{MnO}{}_4{}^{-}\to \mathrm{Mn}{}^{2+}+4\mathrm{H}{}_2\mathrm{O}$ to balance the reaction:
• ox: $5(\mathrm{Fe}{}^{2+}\to \mathrm{Fe}{}^{3+}+e\text{-})$
• red: $8\mathrm{H}{}^{+}+5\mathrm{e}{}^{-}+\mathrm{MnO}{}_4{}^{-}\to \mathrm{MN}{}^{2+}+4\mathrm{H}{}_2\mathrm{O}$
• sum it up: $8\mathrm{H}{}^{+}+5\mathrm{Fe}{}^{2+}+\mathrm{MnO}{}_4{}^{-}\to 5\mathrm{Fe}{}^{3+}+\mathrm{Mn}{}^{2+}+4\mathrm{H}{}_2\mathrm{O}$
